Rumors suggest that Apple is developing an ultra-thin model for its iPhone 17 lineup, possibly named iPhone 17 Air. Recently, leaker Majin Bu shared mockup images comparing this new design with the iPhone 16 Pro Max, highlighting a striking difference in thickness.
The mockup suggests the iPhone 17 Air could be just 6mm thick, potentially making it the thinnest iPhone ever. While the prototype features three cameras, leaks indicate the final version may include only a single 48-megapixel main sensor. This change would align with Apple’s goal of achieving a more compact and minimalist design.

The device is rumored to feature a 6.5-inch display, the A19 chipset, and 8GB of RAM, marking it as a powerful and efficient model. To further slim down the device, Apple may eliminate the physical SIM card tray and the second speaker. These modifications would complement Apple’s ongoing efforts to promote eSIM technology and streamline device functionality.
As reported recently by DigiTimes, the iPhone 17 Air has entered the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase at Foxconn. This marks a critical step toward mass production. The NPI phase is where a product transitions from concept to production, involving prototype testing, design validation, quality control improvements, and logistical alignment with the supply chain. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to replace the Plus variant in Apple’s next-generation lineup.
